FLORENCE-On Tuesday, December 16, we had the privilege of honoring TaShayla Mason for her heroic actions on March 25, 2025.
On that day, Florence Police Department officers responded to 210 Cox Creek Parkway; PNC Bank in reference to a bank robbery that ultimately resulted in an officer-involved shooting. While many are familiar with the events that unfolded after the suspect exited the bank, few know what occurred inside during the initial moments of the incident.
TaShayla Mason displayed extraordinary courage and composure as she was confronted by an armed and agitated individual who threatened to rob the bank and harm others. Drawing on prior rapport, she calmly engaged the suspect in conversation and successfully de-escalated a situation that could have turned deadly inside the bank. At the same time, she discreetly directed other staff members to activate the alarm system, ensuring Florence Police officers were notified without escalating the threat.
As a result of TaShayla’s quick thinking, bravery, and compassion, officers were able to intervene before anyone inside the bank was injured. Her actions undoubtedly saved lives.
On behalf of the men and women of the Florence Police Department, we extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to TaShayla Mason for her heroic actions and selfless service to others.
