FLORENCE– A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT has been issued for the City of Florence targeting Florence Utilities Customers.

Mayor Steve Holt reported that another phone scam involving Florence Utilities customers has been targeting businesses in our service area.

These pretend callers, some using legitimate caller ID numbers, are posing as Florence Utilities employees and are asking for immediate payment and threatening to cut off electric service.   Our Florence Utilities do not request immediate payment nor threatening service disconnection through phone calls.

We ask our customers to be alert to these phone scams that demand immediate payment and threaten service disconnection.  If a Florence Utilities customer receives a suspicious call requesting personal information or immediate payment, he should take the following steps:

  1. Do not give personal or payment information over the phone.
  2. Contact Florence Utilities Collections Departmentat 256-760-6525 or our Customer Service Department at 256-760-6512 to verify rather than just making the payment.

We urge you to please be on alert to these types of calls.
