After a long illness, noted area restauranteur, Pete Kimball Atkinson, passed away in the early hours of Friday, August 23, 2024 at his home. Born on October 15, 1946 in Laurel, MS, he was a son to Hal F. Atkinson, Sr. and Margaret McCormick Atkinson. He married the former Norma Lowe who preceded him in death less than a year ago. Pete served in the United States Air Force and later earned his degree in business from Mississippi State University. Widely considered as one of the best cooks in Monroe County, and coupled with his business skills, his restaurant, Atkinson Steak House became one of the most popular restaurant destinations in North Mississippi. People traveled from miles around to experience his perfect steaks and his special appetizers such as his bacon-wrapped grilled chicken livers. An avid pet lover, they meant the world to him. Pete was Catholic by faith, and he will be deeply missed by many. May he rest in peace.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sherrie Edwards (Randy), Smithville and Kitty Poole, Amory; his sister, Peggy Rower; 7 grandchildren, Mandy, Michelle, Audry, Luke, Keith, Cole, and Devin; and special friends, Matthew Dykes and Matt Thomas.
