Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Ann Smith, 92, of Ashland will be held March 5, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Mike Hanners and Pastor Wade Price officiating. Burial will follow in Millerville Community Cemetery.
Ms. Smith passed away March 3, 2025 in Lineville. She was born and raised in Clay County and graduated from Bibb Graves High School. She moved back to Clay County in 1984 and worked at the Piggly Wiggly for almost 40 years. The grocery business had been her job since the age of 13. Ms. Peggy was an Alabama football fanatic that also loved fishing, camping, the mountains and outdoors in general. She loved the Lord, her husband and adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Jo Culwell of Hayden; son, Steven Smith (Debbie) of Ashland; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Ashley, Jonathan (Lauren), Benjamin (Amy), Mary Elizabeth Walker (Jason) and Anna Lee Cline (Cody); 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; James and Lillie Mae Hickman, her husband, Hilton Smith and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Culwell, Jonathan Culwell, Benjamin Culwell, Cody Cline, Ray Webb and Albert (Tweet) Garrett.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland, Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
