Peggy Ann Dykes (née Pulliam), aged 96, passed away at her residence on December 2, 2024, in Decatur, Alabama. Born on December 11, 1928, in Holly Springs, Marshall County, Mississippi, to T. P. Pulliam and Anna Brigance Cook as the middle of three sisters, Peggy lived a long and fulfilling life. She worked primarily in retail, spending 29 years at SuperX Drugs (later Harco, then Rite-Aid), and working well past retirement with the H.A.N.D.S. Group Home, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the Carnegie Visual Arts Center. A member of 9th Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she had transferred her membership to Austinville UMC when 9th Street closed.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her sister, Olivia Turner, and her devoted husband, James M. Dykes. Survivors include her only son, James M. (Jim) Dykes, Jr., son-in-law, Earl E. Bufford, Jr., both of Decatur, sister Jane Glenn of Yazoo City, Mississippi, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be handled by Roselawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Sellers of Austinville UMC officiating. Visitation is on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 12:30pm-2:00pm, followed by graveside services at Roselawn Cemetery at 2:30pm. Pallbearers will be family and friends, including Christian Chaney, Toby Davis, Michael Davis, John Davis, Paul Ford and Joe McClure.
