Paula Scott, 76, of Cordova, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at her residence. A graveside will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at 1 p.m., at Walker Memory Gardens, with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Alex Oberneder will officiate. Paula loved her family, her church, her friends, and her community. She married her high school sweetheart, her beloved Jack, and they were very happily married for 59 years. She was a wonderful and devoted mother, a loving and available grandmother, an adoring great-grandmother, and a much loved aunt. Paula was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church in Cordova and served there in many capacities through the years. Her beautiful voice was heard in the church choir for 60 years. She was the secretary of the Long Memorial United Methodist Women for 30 years, and her UMW Christmas party was a highlight of the holidays. Paula was a teacher in the Walker County School System for 33 years, first at Martin Elementary and High School, then at Bankhead Middle School in Cordova. She loved her job, and she loved her students. No student went unnoticed or unchallenged in her class, and many of her former students have stayed in touch with her for decades after leaving her class. Paula had many friends who loved her dearly and enjoyed her company. She was a great conversationalist, an excellent travel companion, and a gracious hostess. She was generous with her time; her door and her heart were always open. Paula loved the town of Cordova and served and supported the town in many ways during her life. Paula had many talents and interests, and there was not much she could not do. She was an avid reader and loved to share her books and discuss them. She was a talented seamstress and made beautiful and intricate Christmas stocking and tree skirts which are treasured by those who own them. She loved to dance, she loved the theater, she loved football, and she loved a good joke. Paula Scott enjoyed her life and she lived fully. She will be sorely missed and remembered with great affection. She was preceded in death by her parents, Terry and Clara Crauswell; siblings, Wanda Fuller and David “Butch” Crauswell. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Scott; daughters, Traci Utley and Terri Porter (Fred); grandchildren, Brandon Utley, Emily Porter, Melanie Porter; great grandson, Brayden Utley and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Reed, Jerry Utley, Fred Porter, Jero Brown, Brandon Utley and David Crauswell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to, Long Memorial United Methodist Church.
