Major Paul E. Freeman passed to his Heavenly home on July 14, 2022, at the age of 86. He was married to his beloved wife Martha for 61 years. Paul retired from the United States Army after a valorous and distinguished career of service including multiple wartime tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea. For his heroic actions he earned many medals including the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, and Combat Infantry Badge. He also received numerous other honors in recognition of his selfless and courageous service. After his last tour of combat duty, he was assigned to multi-state recruiting. In this role, he was honored to be chosen to testify before a Congressional committee and was instrumental in the inception of the All-Volunteer Army.

Paul and his family moved to Huntsville in 1974 after his retirement from the Army. He and Martha then worked together for many years selling Real Estate, and helping other families make Huntsville their home. Paul was inducted into the Madison County Military Heritage Commission Hall of Heroes in 2007. Paul was a true Patriot who loved America. He also dearly loved his family and friends, especially his wonderful wife Martha who passed to Heaven in 2016. They loved to walk together holding hands, something they had done since they were 14 years old. Most of all Paul loved God. Paul was a humble servant of God, faithful prayer warrior and Bible scholar. He loved serving in various leadership roles at Whitesburg Baptist Church and in the community. His heart was full of love and thankfulness.

Paul is survived by son, Ed Freeman (Dianne); daughters, Joy Bond (Gary) and Lori Nelson (Alan); six grandchildren, Jake Nelson (Sarah), April Sport (Greg), Alana McNeil (Mikey), Lori Bond, Michael Bond, and Erin Murphy, and three great-grandchildren, Brady Bond, Elzie Sport, and Robby Nelson. He also has an additional four great-grandchildren that will be born in the next few months. Paul was known as “Popi” to his family who love him immensely.

Visitation will be at 10:00-12:00 on July 18, 2022, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. There will be a private family graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, please love one another, hold your family close, and pray for the United States of America.
