Gertrude Bradley Powell, 92, of Huntsville, Alabama, died July 14, 2022. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Lawrence and Claudia Bradley. In 1949, Gertrude married Joseph Harrell Powell. Their two sons, Michael and David, were born in Bynum, Alabama. They then moved to Huntsville where they raised their boys, and she taught 3rd grade at Whitesburg Elementary School. After thirty years, Gertrude retired from teaching to invest in the lives of her ten grandchildren and travel abroad with her husband. Gertrude was a faithful Christian who volunteered in the children’s ministries at church, at Choose Life, with Friendship Force, and with her sorority, ADK. Loving her husband Joe was her greatest joy. She is survived by him, her two sons and daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will be in the chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
