Paul C Mitchell, 82, of Huntsville departed this life June 18th at his home.
He was a gentle, loving man, a devoted husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. In the words of his then 3-year old granddaughter, “he’s a good man”.
He was a US Navy submariner out of high school, and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 36 years in air traffic control. His spirit of adventure throughout his career took he and his family to many locations in the United States and Southeast Asia.. He enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida, Ohio and Huntsville. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Madison.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Free Mitchell, his daughters Tamara Morton of Birmingham, Tanya Mitchell of Huntsville, son Steve Mitchell of Weirton, WVA, and his grandchildren, Drew and Reid Morton of Birmingham, Free VanBuren of Maren, MI and Zander Mitchell of Stuart, FL. He was preceded in death by his son Scott Mitchell and daughter Tracy Mitchell VanBuren.
Although we grieve him in passing, we must also remember to celebrate his life; for that is what he would want us to do. We will miss our beloved husband and father; let us now take comfort in knowing that his last breath here on earth was followed by first breath in Heaven. .
Family visitation will begin Saturday June 21st at 1 PM at Asbury UMC followed by a memorial service at 2 PM.
