MUSCLE SHOALS – Last week it was the Medical Science Expo. This week, Director of the Muscle Shoals Career Academy, Gary Dan Williams had Organized Labor representatives to whom the students could talk. Lots of things are going on at the brand new Workforce Development Center, located on the grounds of Muscle Shoals High School. And it hasn’t officially had the first class there. Ground was broken last January. Classes will start in the Summer.
At Tuesday’s session, Organized Labor representatives met with students from Muscle Shoals, Deshler and Sheffield High Schools. They gave the young people an idea of what opportunities that are afforded them for developing a careed in skilled trades. The event featured a lot of state-of-the-art simulations and activities.
State Senator Roger Bedford, who was instrumental in helping secure State funding for the facility was on hand to talk to the students about the many advantages of learning a skilled trade.
Williams emphasized that this new facility is not simply a traditional trade school. “This facility”, he said, “offers 3 paths for the students. They can prepare for college-level learning after high school, for entrance to learning programs for skilled trades, and they can gain skills for direct entry into the workforce directly out of high school.”
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to take some EVENT PHOTOS, and we present them here.
