Opal Dean Holt Murphy (Deanie), age 72, a life-long resident of Barton, Alabama, died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at her home. Born December 4, 1943 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, Deanie was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a retired registered nurse at Helen Keller Hospital where she worked in Labor and Delivery. She helped bring many babies into this world and she loved her job. She is preceded in death by her father, Opel Holt; and brother, Don Holt.
She is survived by her mother, Eddie Lee Holt; husband, Steve Murphy; and three daughters: Melissa Tidwell, Florence, Alabama, Stacie Marchant (Brian) , Greenville, South Carolina, and Stephanie Thompson (Channing), Cherokee, Alabama; and six grandchildren: Blake and Anna Tidwell, Caden Thompson and Parker Marchant, Caylee and Luke Thompson; sisters, Kay Maddox and Charlotte Campbell; and special aunt, Rose Lawson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee, Alabama. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Tom West officiating. Burial will follow in Barton Cemetery.
Jason Askew, Philip Lawson, Caden Thompson, Blake Tidwell, Brandon Deaton, and Joseph Brown will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Franks, Gary Thompson, Ronnie Holt, Terry Holt, Kevin Murphy, and Terry Murphy.
The family wishes to thank the Alacare nurses, Harris Chapel Cooking Angels, and the many friends and family members who have shown support and concern during this time with your cards, visits, food, and your continued prayers.
