DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of one man on charges of distribution of illegal drugs and possession of a controlled substance.  Here is how Decatur Police describe events leading up to the arrest of one man:

“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
On 02/17/2015 at approximately 1702hrs, members of the Decatur Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit were on patrol near the intersection of 18th Ave and Locust St. SE
While Officer Macklin was patrolling the area, he observed a red Pontiac G6 fail to stop at the stop-sign at the intersection of Locust St and 18th Ave SE. At that time, Officer Macklin got behind the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop (Running a Stop-Sign). The vehicle stopped at the intersection of 18th Ave and Olive St SE.
Officer Macklin made contact with the driver who was identified as Travis Bates. During the course of the traffic stop, Bates was found to be in possession of over a dozen bags of cocaine, prescription drugs and a large amount of U.S. Currency. The cocaine appeared to be packaged for resale and it was determined that Bates had the cocaine with intent to distribute.
Officer Macklin charged Bates with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs and Running a Stop-Sign. The U.S. Currency was seized pending condemnation procedures.
While Officer Macklin was concluding his investigation, he was contacted by Sgt. Hyder with the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit. Sgt Hyder advised Officer Macklin that during the latter months of 2014, he conducted an investigation into the distribution of cocaine by Travis Bates.
Bates sold a quantity of cocaine on two separate occasions within the city limits of Decatur. Sgt Hyder advised Officer Macklin to also charge Bates with 2 counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance.
Officer Macklin transported Bates to the Decatur City Jail where he was booked in for his charges.
Bates will later be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $16,000.00 dollar bond.”
