Oliver Wendell Grissom – Obituary

Oliver Wendell Grissom, 85, died Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born October 2, 1927, to Oliver Burton Grissom and Verlie Pearl Wiggington Grissom. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Saltillo. He worked at American Motors (Chrysler) in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for 37 years. He was an expert welder. He loved working with his hands, whether building or gardening.

Services will be at 4:00 p .m. Wednesday at the McNeece – Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Mack Brown and Robert Fortney officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, whom he married March 24, 1950, Margaret Putt Grissom; five sisters, Mildred Tucker of Mantachie, Lora Ray of Rocklin, CA, Fay Cross of Tucson, AZ, Helen Gilbert and Myra Harper (Karl), both of Birmingham, AL; three granddaughters; nine great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Pat Grissom of Wisconsin and Mary Grissom of Fulton.

He was preceded in death by five sons, David Allen Grissom, Donnie Grissom, Pete Grissom, Bruce Wayne Grissom, and Ronnie Grissom; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be David Baker, Wayne Baker, Joel Baker, Terry Watson, Matt Kreeger, and Tyrone Moss.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Tuesday at the McNeece – Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
