Norman Gene “Flab” Smith – Obituary

FlabNorman Gene “Flab” Smith, 69, of Tuscumbia, died Saturday, December 22, 2012. Visitation will be 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Monday, December 24, 2012 at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia. Ed White is officiating.

Mr. Smith was retired from Reynolds and a member of Valdosta Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren more than life. Flab was an avid Alabama fan, Roll Tide! He also loved to hunt, fish, and garden. He was a man of his word and always tried to help anyone that he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Henry and Florence Jones Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara Smith of Tuscumbia; son, Blake Smith, wife Cecily, grandchild, Bess and granddog, Treat of Tuscumbia; son, Greg “Catfish” Smith of Sheffield and grandchild, Jenna of Nashville; and sisters, Genell Askew of Tuscumbia and Jeanita Hayes of Miami, FL; niece, Geri Nell Hamm and nephews, Jeff Askew and Joel Hayes.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Askew, Clarence Johnson, Jimmy Black, Chuck Evans, Jimmy Bacon, Glen Enlow, Mark Dennis, and Bernard Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Finch, Harlon King, T.J. “Frog” Nichols, Tim Holt, David Fleming and Dr. Andre Taylor.
