Norman Allison Baker was born 5/26/35 in Providence, RI and died 5/25/26. His parents were Allison (Al) Boardman Baker and Hazel Pegory Hagopian. He had one sister, Althea Baker Crowley. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Joiner Baker: two beloved nieces, Susan Fontaine, and Judith Crowley, both of Rhode Island, and several great nieces and nephews. He attended East Providence High School, Southwest Missouri College (bachelor’s degree), University of Wisconsin-Platteville (master’s degree), and the University of Missouri (Ph.D). He spent many years in the field of education, and taught mostly graduate courses in industrial and technical education. He taught courses as a student and faculty member at Clemson, Indiana University, and Georgia State University.
Outside the classroom, Norm enjoyed many hobbies including but certainly not limited to sailing, fishing, woodcarving, photography, painting, and leather work. After retirement, he and Liz enjoyed working with the food ministries of their church, St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Mentone AL.
At his request, no services are planned, but a private family gathering will take place at a later time.
