Norma Jean Swanner Sulcer

Funeral service for Norma Jean Swanner Sulcer, age 83, of Decatur, will be Thursday, December 2, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Blass officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Athens City Cemetery.

Ms. Sulcer, who died Monday, November 29, 2021, at her residence, was born March 13, 1938, in Limestone County, to James Herman Swanner, Sr. and Mary Jane Pressnell Swanner. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, “Baby Boy” and Morris Swanner; and three sisters, Frances Swanner, Margaret Swinea, and Anne Lou Bynum. Ms. Sulcer was an active member of Central Baptist Church for more than 30 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who never met a stranger.

She is survived by one son, Timothy Bud Sulcer (Tina) of Decatur; one daughter, Donna Jean Sulcer Horn (Benji) of Tanner; one brother, James Herman Swanner, Jr. of Athens; two sisters, Evelyn Swanner Marsh of Swancott, and Doris Swanner Henderson of Milton, FL; two grandchildren, Jessica Paige Jetton (Jacob) of Madison, and William Casey Allen (Leah) of Prospect, TN; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Casey Allen, Jacob Jetton, Jimmy Swanner, Greg Swanner, Jeff Henderson, and Freddie Henderson.
