Nina Mae “Granny” Malone, age 85 of Tuscumbia, passed away on September 7, 2026. In keeping with her wishes, there will be a private family celebration of her life at a later date. The burial will be at New Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
“Granny” was a bus driver for over 42 years and cafeteria worker for over 24 years at New Bethel Elementary School. After school and on weekends, she worked at the family business (Malone’s Garden Center) where everyone knew her as “Granny”. She was a wonderful cook and a great pea sheller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Malone (Paw); father and mother, Albert and Bessie Rikard; sisters, Cecil Landers, Belinda Rikard; and brothers, Elvin and James Rikard.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Mitchell (Ted); son, Tim Malone (Lisa); daughters, Debbie Hill (Mike), Tina Barron (Raymond), Diane Stacy (James); our sister-in-love, Lisa Hill. Grandchildren, Matt Hill (Amanda), Corey Barron (Amanda), Heath Malone (Lauren), Emily Nelson (Andrew), Brooks Clark (Brandie), Danielle Oswalt (Bradley), Austin Stacy (Sharon), Nathaniel Stacy; great-grandchildren, Hunter Hill (Maggie), Holly and Cooper Hill, Georgia and Palmer Barron, Dax, Addie Kate, and Ann Holland Malone, Tristan and Bella Oswalt, Charlie Nelson, Hudson and Ada Stacy.
The family would love to thank Wanda Cole for the caregiving she gave Granny at home. We want to thank Aviana Hospice for all their help in such a hard time. Thanks to the staff at NHC Moulton for the love and kindness while she was there. Special thanks to Lisa, Tina, Mamie, April, and Caroline, and all of the others there who helped with her care and made her feel special and loved. Last special thanks to Nicole for making her hair look so beautiful. How she looked forward to Fridays.
