Nick Maitland Toney, 57, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his residence. He was born September 18, 1968, in Heard County, Georgia, to William Leonard Toney, Sr. and Linda Jo Thrower Toney, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Mildred Toney, who raised him. He is survived by his fiancée, Margaret-Mary Galbraith of Scotland. He was loved dearly by surviving half siblings, several nieces and nephews, several aunts and uncles, and a host of cousins and friends.
He was a United States Navy Veteran and served on the USS Coral Sea CV-43. He served as an Operational Intelligence Analyst for 2 years and received the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/ 1 Star. He was a United States Navy Veteran and was released from Active Duty on September 19, 1989, with Honorable Status. After his military service, he attended the DeKalb Technical Institute and subsequently worked in the accounting industry for over 12 years in the Atlanta area. He relocated and began working in industry for Sony DADC and worked at GE Appliances prior to his passing.
Nick was a proud member of Mensa, and he had an extensive knowledge of almost every subject. He loved books of all genres and had almost 1,000 books in his library. He loved puzzles and card and board games. His legacy was one of great generosity, always preferring to give rather than receive. He was appreciative of every kind word and every gift given to him. He loved to buy in bulk so he could share the things he loved. He always had a goofy joke to try to make people smile. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Son Rise Baptist Church on Saturday, June 27th at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00-1:00 PM with Bro. Doug Raburn and Bro. Joe Nuss officiating. Interment will be in the Alabama National Cemetery.
