Nellie Dean Thrasher, 87, of Hatton, left this world and went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 24, 2014. In heaven she’s joined her husband, Warren Thrasher, her parents, Claud G. and Lassie Sandlin, and her brother, Owen D. Sandlin.

She leaves behind two daughters whom she still called “my babies,” Nell Yarbrough (Frankie), of Hatton, and Connie Hatcher (Jim), of Muscle Shoals; two granddaughters whom she loved beyond measure, Christy Chapman and Nicole Stahr (Ed), of Winter Garden, Florida; four great-granddaughters who brought her much joy, Emma Chapman, Amelia Chapman, Bella Stahr, and Sophia Chapman; her twin sister, Wilma Burton, of Tuscumbia, and sister, Dot Goodwin (J.C.), of Hatton; sisters-in-law, Marie Sandlin, of Moulton, and Hilda Cooper (Carl), of Southlake, Texas; special cousin, Brenda Mutchler (Neil), of Hatton; and nieces, nephews, her Okolona Baptist Church family, and many friends.

Her family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Judy McCreary, Gayla Lewis, and Diane Dishon who cared for her, were there in so many ways, and made her life and the life of her family more normal. Very special thanks are given to the staff at Lawrence Medical Center for their gentleness and care: the nurses, techs, kitchen staff, housekeeping staff, X-ray technicians, lab technicians, and all those who entered her hospital room. Much gratitude also to her pastor, Brother Terry Settles, who ministered to both her and her family, and Dr. Charles Coffey for the 23 years he treated her and the compassion he gave.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Moulton. The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Okolona Baptist Church in Hatton, with burial in Fergason Cemetery. Brother Scott Brackin and Brother Terry Settles will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be David Berryman, Kenneth Bruton, David Goodwin, David Pierce, Edwin Smith, Wayne Witt, and honorary pallbearer Ray Sherrill.

She’s left a legacy of kindness and care for many who were shut-in, who could not do their laundry, balance their checkbook, or make a trip to the grocery store. Many of these are not and will not be remembered here on earth, but the Lord remembers all she did for her family and others.

“God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love, which you have shown toward His name.” Hebrews 6:10 NKJV
