UPDATE: National Weather Service: Winter Weather Advisory Still In Effect

NORTH ALABAMA-The National Weather Service says the  Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for our area until 6p today.    Icing is the main threat for our area. Light icing is being reported throughout the city. Our temps are holding at or below freezing. While bridges and overpasses have been treated, use caution when driving and approaching elevated roadways    Here is the latest advisory from the National Weather Service:

…WINTER STORM WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT TENNESSEE VALLEY…

FREEZING RAIN…MIXED WITH SLEET AT TIMES…WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT
MUCH OF NORTH ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE THIS MORNING.
SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHWEST ALABAMA
AND SOUTHERN TENNESSEE. THIS AFTERNOON…STRENGTHENING SOUTHERLY
WINDS WILL BRING WARMER AIR ACROSS THE REGION. AS THIS OCCURS…
PRECIPITATION WILL TRANSITION TO MAINLY RAIN WITH POCKETS OF FREEZING
RAIN CONTINUING…ESPECIALLY ACROSS NORTHWEST ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN
MIDDLE TENNESSEE.

SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE. PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN…MIXED WITH
SLEET AT TIMES…WILL OCCUR THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS…UP TO A QUARTER INCH WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS. SOME SLEET ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE.

* AIR TEMPERATURES…UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S.

* IMPACTS…TRAVEL WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTED BY ACCUMULATIONS OF
ICE AND SLEET. BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES WILL BE SLICK AND
HAZARDOUS…FOLLOWED BY SECONDARY ROADWAYS. ACCUMULATING ICE ON
TREES AND POWER LINES MAY LEAD TO ISOLATED INTERRUPTIONS IN
UTILITIES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICE AND SOME
SLEET ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. A GUSTY EAST TO NORTHEAST WIND
IS ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR
IMPOSSIBLE.

ELEVATIONS WILL BE SEVERAL DEGREES COOLER.

* IMPACTS…BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES MAY BECOME ICY CREATING DANGEROUS
TRAVEL CONDITIONS…ESPECIALLY OVER HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SAND AND
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN.
