FLORENCE-Florence/Lauderdale Tourism will celebrate National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day December 15 from 9 – 4 at the Visitor Center located in McFarland Park. Visitors and local residents are encouraged to stop by wearing their ugliest Christmas attire and enjoy refreshments, special treat bags and register for prizes. Photos will be posted on the Visit Florence, AL Facebook page for voting on 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the ugliest sweater. Prizes will include an overnight stay at the Marriott, Muscle Shoals Sound Studio package and a Visitor Center gift basket.
The Tennessee Valley Strummers will be playing folk dulcimer music in the Gallery on December 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. The dulcimer, which means “sweet sound,” is a four-stringed instrument developed in the 1700s in the southern Appalachian Mountains. The featured players use a tablature system of playing, based on fret numbers, which enables them to play with others – even if they have never met before.
