Nancy Burks Mattox, 79, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Guntown, MS on November 12, 2018.   She was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother not only to her children but to the many children that flowed through her home over the years.  Nancy was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Burks of Houston, MS.  After graduating Ole Miss, where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority, she taught school until she married the love of her life, David A. Mattox on July 16, 1961.  They had two children, David A. Mattox II and Vera Jane Mattox.  After losing her husband to death, Nancy went on to continue what she did best, nurturing young people.  She served as the house director at the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Mississippi State for 5 years and then went on to serve as the house director at the Delta Gamma sorority at Ole Miss for 14 years.  As she would often say “Hotty Toddy Delta Darlins!”

Visitation will be held at Fulton United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 11am to 1pm followed by a brief service.  Nancy’s nephew, Brother Terry Rhodes will officiate the service.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband of 25 years at Hillcrest Masonic Cemetery in Fulton, MS.  McNeece-Morris Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her son David Mattox II of Tupelo, MS; daughter Jane Mattox Sams and son-in-law Carr Sams of Guntown, MS; grandson David Mattox III (Trey) of Little Rock, AR; grandson Cole Brazil of Starkville, MS; granddaughter Kathryn Brazil of Canton, MS; and three great grandchildren, Britton and Miller Kate Mattox, and Brantley Brazil; and nieces and nephews that “Aunt Nancy” deeply loved.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband David A. Mattox; grandson Matthew Frank Mattox; parents David and Ludie Burks; and sisters Ruth Rhodes and Marie Moore.

Pallbearers will be Nolly Felts, Burks McCullough, Paden McCullough, Tommy Patrick, Mark Cooper, and Phillip Izard.

A special thank you for the care provided by our angels Helen Chavis, Shauna Parker, Glenda Hester, Ramelle McClendon, and Crystal Davis and for the wonderful care provided by Spring Valley Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
