Nancy Bowling Lott Barclift – Obituary

NancyNancy Bowling Lott Barclift, of Florence, passed away February 18, 2013. Born November 7, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama, Nancy is the daughter of Robert Lee Lott, Jr. and Em Agee Mattison Lott. A graduate of Woodlawn High, Nancy attended Samford University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. Nancy worked for TVA, first at Colbert Steam Plant, and then Muscle Shoals and Knoxville, retiring as an accounting officer in 1993. Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Florence, where she was a member of the choir and Presbyterian Women. Nancy was an active volunteer in the Lauderdale County Chapter of the American Red Cross, tutored dyslexic students, and was a member of the Forest Hills Sewing Club and the Contemporary Study Club. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Brigadier General Robert Lee Lott III, retired, of Birmingham, and her granddaughter, Catherine Stovall Barclift, of Fort Myers, Florida, b. February 18, 1985, d. November 6, 2007. Nancy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Preston Walker Barclift, her sons, Robert Preston Barclift of Fort Myers, Florida, and David Walker Barclift of Atlanta, Georgia, their spouses Stephanie and Debbie, and their children, Rachel Augusta Barclift, Atlanta, Caroline Walker Barclift, Fort Myers, and Robert Walker Barclift, Atlanta. A memorial service, conducted by the Reverend Dr. James K. Thompson, will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence on Saturday, February 23, 2013. The family will receive friends in the church library from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m., followed by a service in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. Committal of Nancy’s ashes to the church’s Columbarium will follow the service. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Florence, Alabama.
