Nancy Ann Campbell – Obituary

Nancy Ann Campbell died December 31, 2017 at her home in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born December 10, 1935 in Mt. Ida, Arkansas to Clyde and Ivah Henson, both of whom predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her husband, Dr. James Edward Campbell, to whom she was married on June 7, 1958. She was a graduate of Carson Newman College with a degree in Music and attended St. Louis Institute of Music.

During their marriage, she and Dr. Campbell were residents of Memphis, Tennessee, Kingsport, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama. They moved to Huntsville in 1963 when Dr. Campbell began to practice medicine and it there they raised their four children.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Campbell of Dallas, Texas, Pam Berry and her husband Neal of Huntsville, Alabama, Phillip Campbell and his wife Hollan of Huntsville, Alabama and Beverly Pumphrey of Shelbyville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Christina (Brandon) Waldron, Courtney Campbell, Rebecca Berry, Emily Berry, Campbell Pumphrey, Foster Pumphrey, Emma Pumphrey, Dylan Gaines, Mason Stogner and Lanier Stogner; and great grandchildren, Grayson Waldron and Axel Waldron.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years, about 25 years in the Special Children’s ministries followed by 25 years of participation in the music ministries. She particularly enjoyed singing in the Living Christmas tree and the Hallelujah choir. She was also involved in the Huntsville Chapter of D.A.R., Piedmont Garden Club, Cosmopolitan Club, and enjoyed activities with Water Lily and Bunko friends. She had a servant’s heart and supported many organizations with gifts of her time and money including Heifer International, SMILE, Wounded Warrior, Baptist Missions, and Serve the City.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3 at First Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 4 at the church with Dr. David Hull and the Rev. Travis Collins officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions Program at First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice Family Care team for the care and kind treatment in her final days.
