Nada Marshall, 89, of Decatur, AL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Riverside Senior Living, Decatur, AL. Nada was born in Rozel, Kansas and grew up on a Kansas wheat farm with her parents, brother Bill, her horse named Ring, and the occasional tornado. Her Dad wore Keyes overalls and drove nuthin’ but Chevy’s. As an Air Force wife she lived in California, Texas, Arizona, Nebraska, Illinois, Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. In 2019 they moved to Decatur.
Nada was born to Harry and Ada Winkler. She had an older brother Bill who liked to drive stock cars. She married Larry Marshall after selling her horse for $50. Good trade, by all accounts. She sewed her own wedding dress. She lived a full life and was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, her two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent (Lyn) and Alan (Wendy), and four grandchildren John, Susannah, Andrew and David. Nada trusted in Jesus as her Savior when she was 28 years old. She was active in the choir, taught Sunday school classes and played the clarinet in the church orchestra. She tried, without success, to teach Alan to play the organ. She graduated from nursing school at KU (Go Jayhawks) and practiced as a registered nurse until she was expecting her first child, Brent. She loved to grow plants and could bring any plant on the Home Depot dead flower shelf back to life. She was very conscientious to take care of our dogs, brushing them every day and fussing over them. She was an immaculate house keeper and kindly welcomed people into her home, keeping an exchange student from Japan and hosting various missionaries. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was always smiling except when she was putting in her eye drops or rolling her hair. We forgot how beautiful she was until we were looking through some of her old pictures. My favorite memory of my mother was that she listened to J. Vernon McGee’s Through the Bible Radio broadcast each weekday. It was a trip through all the books of the Bible in five years. Mom kept a Bible on the green rocking chair and she would stop her housework and listen to the Bible study each day. We joined her whenever we didn’t have school.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Free Presbyterian Church located at 1280 Old Highway 24, Trinity, AL, with Pastor Myron Mooney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM at the church.
