THE SHOALS-Premier outdoor recreation sites to visit in northwest Alabama are almost endless.
Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area wants you to explore them more using
MSNHA’s backpacking loan closet.

The loan closet provides free gear rentals for organizations and organized community
groups from or visiting a site within the MSNHA (within Lauderdale, Colbert,
Lawrence, Limestone, Franklin or Morgan Counties). MSNHA’s goal is to help
groups who want to experience camping or backpacking, but don’t have access to
gear, get outside.

“We recognize that access to equipment for those looking to make their first overnight
visit in the outdoors can be a big barrier to their exploration. We want those with
limited experience seeking to explore and those with socioeconomic hardship to have
that opportunity without the added financial pressure of purchasing expensive gear,”
said TJ Johnson, MSNHA programs coordinator. “Introducing our communities to
these types of recreational experiences by providing access and education inspires
enjoyment and stewardship of our natural resources and promotes public health.”
MSNHA will also facilitate training for renters who want to learn the basics of using
provided outdoor equipment.

Prospective renters can learn more and inquire about rentals through the MSNHA
website, msnha.una.edu. Check HERE
