Missing Swimmer Near Waterloo…Search Resumes Today

em lightsWATERLOO– Lauderdale County EMA received a call around 12:30 Pm on Monday, September 5.  The call was regarding a missing swimmer near Waterloo in Pickwick Lake.

Emergency personnel from three states searched for the missing swimmer who apparently jumped from a boat and swam for a bit then never surfaced.

The search for the man was called off  due to nightfall.  The search will resume today.  Searchers are referring to the operation going forward as a recovery mission.

  The area where the swimmer disappeared is near  Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee meet in extreme northwest Lauderdale County.

Mississippi Emergency personnel and Tennessee EMA’s were involved in the search, as were the Alabama Marine Police and Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

The identity of the man has not been released.  Authorities did say the victim was a 36-year-old man from Memphis, Tennessee.
