Mildred Jeneace Glover

Mildred Jeneace Glover went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2023 after a long battle with dementia.  She was born on May 27, 1941, but her Mom always said she was born on the 28th of May and that was the day she celebrated her birthday.  She was named after her wonderful mother Mildred, but her family and friends called her Jan. Her classmates also knew her as Jeneace. Her daughters called her Mom, and her grandchildren called her Nannie and Nana. Eventually, her great-grandchildren went on to call her Nana Jan, and she wore each of those names so proudly.

Jan graduated from New Hope High School in 1960. Her peers said that she was highly intelligent, and throughout her life, she spoke about the Class of 1960 in high regard and often called classmates out by name.  It was not long after graduating that she married her sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Durham, and together they began Bob’s military career in the United States Army. They were married for 51 years until Bob was called home to the Lord. Along their journey together, they traveled and lived throughout the United States and even abroad in Germany. They welcomed two daughters, Deborah and Laura Durham.  They welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They welcomed life. They were humble people.

Being a military wife and mother came with an enormous amount of responsibility, and Jan wore many hats.  There were times where she was both mother and father as Bob was called to serve in the Vietnam War and other deployment times when the family could not be together.  During Bob’s military service, Jan took work as a sales clerk, a cashier, worked in manufacturing, food service, and eventually retired from the PX RSA as Assistant Manager of the food court.  Even after retirement, she continued to work.  She became a food manager for a local church daycare. In her kitchen, she would only settle for a 100 on a health score. Jan became a caretaker when her husband Bob suffered from emphysema.

The loves of Jan’s life were God, family, country, pets, and butterflies. She enjoyed traveling, country music and card & board games. She enjoyed hosting family get-togethers, cooking, and attending her class reunions when able.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband Robert Durham, both daughters Debbie Ikard and Laura Durham, both parents Edward Oddie Glover and Mildred Stephens Glover, sister Vivian Geraldine (Jerri) Watson, son-in-law Ronald Ikard and many other long-time missed and beloved family members & friends.

Jan is survived and remembered by her two sisters, Carolyn Womack and Marilyn Meeker (Don), brother, Ricky Glover, her grandchildren Lindsey Sanderson (Shaun) and Wesley Ikard (Elizabeth), and great-grandchildren Austin and Dalton Sanderson and Morgan and Riley Ikard.  She is also survived and remembered by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends too numerous to list.  She loved and adored all of you.

The family would like to formally invite you to attend Jan’s visitation Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hampton Cove Funeral Home and services at Hampton Cove Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Bro. Gary Gates officiating. Thank you for your condolences.
