Mr. Michael Louis Wellons, 56, of Bolivar, departed this life Wednesday morning, March 20 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
A geologist with the State of Tennessee for over 25 years, he was born September 7, 1956 to Louis Monroe Wellons, Jr and Ann Vaughan Wellons, both of whom preceded him in death and lived most of his life in Bolivar. He was a 1974 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. A former Bolivar City Councilman, he also had served on the Bolivar Regional Planning Commission, and was very active in the Hardeman County Democratic Party. Mike loved to raise, show and judge bull terriers, and was an avid reader and writer, having had several poems published.
Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Wellons of New York, NY; a son and his wife, Ian and Amanda Wellons of Bolivar; a brother, Paul Wellons of San Francisco, CA; a special friend, Donna Pinner of Bolivar; and his former wife, Janet Wellons of Bolivar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chad Wellons.
