Michael Joseph Mecke Sr., age 76, of Florence, passed away March 2, 2015. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. A rosary will be said on Friday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Florian. The Mass of christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. with Father Jacob Amos, OSB, officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from Wise Alloys. He was a member of the Aluminum Workers Local, the Lauderdale County Cattleman’s association and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Alabama sports fan.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Louis and Rosa Evelyn Mecke, sister, Dorothy “Dot,” and brother, Jim.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Mecke; sons, Jeffrey David Mecke (Tina) and Michael Joseph “Joey” Mecke Jr.; stepchildren, Sidonia Edwards, Delyla Walker, Cheryl Harrison, and Gail Dean (Nathan); siblings, Anna Thomas, W. T. Mecke, and Bob Mecke; grandson, Jeffrey Tyler Mecke; ten stepgrandchildren; and ten stepgreat-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
