Michael Cabot Moore, 84, of Tuscumbia, born on September 23, 1940 passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Visitation will be held on Saturday July 5, 2025 from 1-2, with a service to follow at 2. Burial will be held in Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, AL on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 10 a.m.
Michael was a devoted husband to his wife, Jane, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was a lifelong learner and scholar, earning both his Master’s and Ph.D. in Chemistry. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army for 24 years, including a tour of duty in the Vietnam War, and retired with the rank of Colonel.
Following his military retirement, Michael continued his commitment to service by teaching chemistry for seven years at the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor in Belton, Texas. After relocating back to Alabama and settling in Tuscumbia, he taught for several more years at Northwest-Shoals Community College, sharing his passion for science and education with a new generation of students.
In retirement, Michael remained deeply involved in his community, volunteering with the American Red Cross and AARP’s Tax-Aide program. He was a longtime member of Highland Park Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and led ministries dedicated to serving others. His heart was devoted to helping those in need, and he lived each day with quiet strength, faithful service, and deep compassion. He was a kind and loving child of God who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Mike’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tim Ashley and his staff, Dr. Brett Barlow and the entire Clearview Cancer Institute team, as well as the emergency room and ICU doctors, nurses, and staff at Helen Keller Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they showed Michael in his final months and days. Your kindness and dedication are deeply appreciated.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Morris Moore and Dorothy Gifford Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Brooks Moore of Decatur, AL; children Michelle Moore Richardson (Bill), Robert Brooks Moore (Carolyn); grandchildren, Jonathan Richardson (Caitlin), Jessica Kennedy (Kyle), Julie Thrasher (Layton), Sophie Ottke Moore, Gabriel Ottke Moore, Colin Ottke Moore, Rowen Ottke Moore; great grandchildren, Koa Kennedy, Kai Kennedy, Nora Richardson.
Pallbearers will be: Robert Moore, Bill Richardson, Jonathan Richardson, Kyle Kennedy, Layton Thrasher, Gabriel Ottke Moore, Colin Ottke Moore, Rowen Ottke Moore.
