Meritha Jewel Thurman, 89, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2025. She was born in Huntsville, AL to the late Claude and Allie Mae Batt. She graduated from Butler High School and attended business school. She retired from Consolidated Construction Company in 1992 and was an active member of Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville for over 30 years.
Meritha is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Joe Thurman of Huntsville; son, Steven Cobb of Colorado; sister, Wanda Watson (Bud); brother, Eddie Batt (Karen); two loving stepchildren, Sherri Cimino and Michael Thurman (Gina); seven wonderful step-grandchildren, who adored their “Nana”, Dr. Addison Cimino (Lauren), Sarah Margaret McClure (Dr. Mark), Maddie Cimino; Blake (Maren), Grayson and Reed Thurman; Kara Fincannon (Chris); and three step-great-grandsons, Arthur, Jed and Campbell. She was predeceased by her son, Gary Cobb, and brothers, C.B. and Lawrence Batt.
Meritha loved to travel and play golf with Joe, family and friends; walk outdoors and exercise at the gym; spend time with family and friends at Guntersville Lake; and participate in Mayfair activities, including Ladies Bible Class and caring for elderly ladies at Mayfair Towers. Meritha was known for her kind and sweet spirit, strong faith, sharp wit and physical fitness.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Mayfair Church of Christ. The funeral service will immediately follow with Dr. Gary Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
