Mavoline Burchell Skipworth

Mavoline Burchell Skipworth, age 94, died Monday, January 8, 2024.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was a faithful member of Center Star Church of Christ for many years.  She was a Bible school teacher, homemaker, fantastic cook, master seamstress, and lover of birds and flowers.  She loved the Lord and was constantly reading his word.

Mavoline was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, J.W. Skipworth; her parents James Arthur Burchell and Nellie Spry Burchell; her siblings Virginia (Sammie) Burchell, Betty Richardson, Geneva Beddingfield, James Arthur Burchell Jr., Mahlon Burchell, Rhoda Lyles, Bessie Williamson, Ellis Burchell, Laverne Segars, and Douglas Burchell; her great-grandchild Elizabeth Glory Savage.

She is survived by her children, Rose Pettus (Danny), Joy Fowler (Ron), John Skipworth (Donna), Bill Skipworth (Denise); her grandchildren, Jonathan Pettus (Betsi), Ben Smith (Angela), Rebekah Savage (Thom), Will Pettus (Ellie); Abby Brown (Dalton), Anna Skipworth, Nathan Skipworth; her great- grandchildren Xander, Connor, Ada, Hank, Gram, Hannah Joy, Mary Hope, John, Tucker, Tanner, Taylor, Kaylee, Charlie, Emma; her siblings Clayton Burchell, Lyla Joyce Giddens Hobbs, Judy Richardson.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home of Florence.  The service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Danny Pettus officiating, and interment will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Pettus, Will Pettus, Ben Smith, John Giddens Jr., Marty Daly, and Steven Burchell.

Honorary Pallbearers are Thom Savage, Eddie Behel, Larry Skipworth, Nathan Skipworth, Xander Pettus, and Connor Pettus.

The family would like to thank the third floor staff at Helen Keller Hospital, the staff at Cedar View Assisted Living, and the staff at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home.  Their professionalism, loving hearts, and compassionate spirits have been a blessing to our family.
