Mrs. Mattie Teresa Sheppard Lewis, formerly of Tuscumbia, Alabama, was born September 3, 1943, to the late George and Louise Sheppard. She went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Mattie attended Trenholm High School and graduated from Sterling High School. She was a faithful member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Tuscumbia, Alabama, where she served on the Women’s Missionary Society Board.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-five years, Mr. Edward J. “Butch” Lewis; parents, George and Louise Sheppard; brothers, William Thomas Dent and James “Bubba” Sheppard; sisters, Frances “Titis” Sheppard Walker; and grandson, Frederick Coman.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memories:
A loving daughter, Georgetta M. Pender of Florence, AL; two sons, David J. Perkins and Frederick W. (Catesha) Perkins, III of Florence, AL; a forever son-in-law, Larry Pender; a special grandson, Carl Lee (Katrina) Mitchell, Jr. of Sheffield, AL; a devoted granddaughter, Laquita Mitchell; grandchildren, Sydney Perkins, Brandon Perkins, and LaKensha McClemore; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two special God daughters, Annie Ruth and Diane Newsome; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
