Mary Monica Slaughter, age 89 of Winchester, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Bailey Manor in Manchester. She was born on September 7, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Andrew Dolan and Margaret O’Reilly Dolan. As a small child, she moved to Canada with her parents but then returned to Detroit where she later met her beloved husband, and worked at St. Agatha school as a secretary for many years. Monica was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Shelbyville and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Winchester. She was a volunteer pink lady at Bedford County General Hospital and worked with the Bedford County Elections Committee. She will long be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her willingness to help others, and the vibrant life she lived. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, dancing, baking and making quilts for her relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Slaughter and siblings, Joseph Dolan, Bernie Dolan and Helen Voigt. Survivors include her children, Philip Slaughter of Atlanta, GA, Brian Slaughter of Winchester and Kathy Coupland of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; grandchildren, Lindsey (Keith) Wortham of Murfreesboro, Michael Adcock of Nashville and Anna Hill of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Kameron Adcock and Paris Adcock; good friends Dianne Clanton and Amanda Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other friends she considered as family.
