Mary Jean Reeder Mary Jean Lowry Reeder met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 20, 2026, at her home in Pontotoc, Mississippi surrounded by her family. She was born on June 9, 1942, in Pontotoc County, to the late E.Q. and Maidee Sappington Lowry. She spent her first eight years attending Zion Elementary School and completed her secondary education at Pontotoc High School in 1960. At PHS, she was a cheerleader, voted Cutest three
consecutive years, Class Beauty and Miss Pontotoc High School.
Mary Jean met her future husband, Ellis Adrian Reeder, the second day of high school. They dated for 6 years and married at First Baptist Church of Pontotoc on June 3rd, 1962. They made their home in West Point, Mississippi where they had their first two children, later moving to Shannon, Clarksdale, and finally home to Pontotoc, where they had their second two children.
She spent the next 44 years working in various roles at First National Bank, where she formed countless wonderful relationships with employees and customers. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and loved her Sunday School class.
Mary Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family unconditionally and was there for every major life event in her children’s lives. She and her husband enjoyed their many travels and especially enjoyed their trips to Hawaii. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary and her 84th birthday in June 2026.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Reeder of Pontotoc, children, Kelli Reeder Atkins of Amory, Lance Reeder (Sandy) of Flora, Lynn Reeder Lamb (Chris) of Jackson, Jay Reeder of Pontotoc, grandchildren, Katie Atkins Coltharp (Bobby), Dee Atkins (Rachel), Jordan Atkins, Elly Lamb Wurm (Cameron), Josh Reeder, Warner Lamb, Grant Reeder, Emme Lamb, great-grandchildren, Grady Rhett Atkins, Robert Wilder Coltharp, Sidney Ellis Atkins, Josey Wells Atkins, William Ellis Wurm, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.Q. Lowry, her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Lowry, and her grandson, Adrian Lowry Lamb.
The family would like to express their thanks and love to Melinda Frison and Mary Gordon for their exceptional love and care.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday, June 25th and 1:00-2:00 pm Friday, June 26th, with the service following at 2:00pm, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Pontotoc.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Pontotoc Building fund.
