Ms. Mary Hatty Cowan, age 83, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away at her residence on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Mary was born in Campbell County, Tennessee on August 20, 1941. Mary’s parents were James Estell Broyles and Sally Leo Carr Broyles. She was a high school graduate and had furthered her education and earned an associate degree.
Mary had a true passion for helping children. For years she worked faithfully at the Chi-Ho Mansion in Huntsville, AL, which provided short term care for children in need. As Mary became older, she spent her leisure time attending yard sales and thrift stores, walking around the community and visiting the creek, feeding the fish, gardening, and caring for her chickens.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Karen Vickers (Troy) and Rebecca J. Cowan; grandchildren, Michael Vickers (Holly) and Cody Rhodes; great grandchild, Sydney Vickers (Jamichael); brother Ralph Broyles; sisters, Linda Kennedy and Bertha Paul.
Preceding her in death included her parents, James and Sally Broyles; husband, Joe Wade Cowan; three brothers and four sisters.
Interment will be 11:00am Monday, May 19, 2025 at Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Morgan City, AL.
