Mary Elnora Pigford Smith
Mary passed peacefully in her sleep, May 11th, 2022 at the age of 79 at her home in Oxford, AL, surrounded by family. She is survived by her children Chris (Shannon) Smith. Clay, Rosemary (Jay) Ashley and Catherine (Billy) Walker; nine grandchildren: Megan, Morghan, Austin (Chris/Shannon), Phineas (Clay/Tracy), Katelyn (Rosemary/Jay), Harper, Sadie, (Catherine/Billy), Malcolm (Clay/Tracy), and Joshua (Clay/Erin), and two great grandchildren: Blakley (Megan/Beau) and Carter (Morghan/Preston)
She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Garrett C. Smith and her parents E.E. Pigford and Mary Alice Pigford of New Albany, MS.
Mary was a lifelong educator, avid book reader, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and fur babies.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Enhabit Hospice for taking excellent care of her the last several months.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Oxford, where she was a long-time member, Sunday, May 15th at 2pm. The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2 pm prior to the service at the church.
