Mary Elizabeth Carroll (Miller), 90, of Arab, Alabama passed away from this life and entered Life Eternal on July 26, 2025, at Marshall Medical Center North surrounded by children after a short illness.
Mary was born on March 20, 1935, in Portland, Oregon to Josephine and Austin V. Miller. She was very proud of being a Veteran and served in the US Navy until she married Jesse J. Carroll and they began their large family. After many years of rearing five children, she began nursing school at Wallace Junior College where she graduated with an LPN degree and began a fulfilling career in nursing. She retired after many years devoted to the care of others in the nursing profession in hospital and nursing home settings.
She was a devoted mother, Nana and a friend of many. She is known for her “spunkiness”, truthfulness, kindness, generosity. She loved family, gardening, traveling, nature, cooking, her church, and most of all her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by three children, daughter Susan Carroll Pope (Mike) Hartselle, AL; sons Kenneth Wayne Carroll, Arab, AL; and Jesse Joseph Carroll III, Arab, AL.; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and one sister Reita Ann Cambell of Wilsonville, OR. And many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Austin V. Miller; two sons, Michael Anthony Carroll and Eugene Wesley Carroll and their father, Jesse Jospeh Carroll Jr.
Visitation and Celebration of Life will take place at New Brashier’s Chapel Global Methodist Church Arab with visitation at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9 and Celebration of Life service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev Mike Shirley and Rev Mike Pope officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at Marshall Medical Center North for their compassionate care during Mary’s brief illness.
