Funeral service for Mary Charles (Culpepper) Holland, age 88, of Decatur, will be Friday, October 2, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Benjamin Holland and Dr. Ben Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Holland, who died Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the home of Gary and Teri Holland, was born March 25, 1927, in Coffee Springs, AL to Moses Wesley Culpepper and Lessie Lewis Culpepper. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Harold Holland; her parents; and her brother, Calvin Lamar Culpepper.
She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church where she was active in multiple church ministries. For many years, she taught kindergarten at Southside Baptist Church. She led numerous Bible classes through Community Bible Study.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Ashley Holland (Linda), Julian Wesley Holland (Kathy), and Gary Wayne Holland (Teri), all of Somerville; eight grandchildren, Amanda Meritt (Zac), Leslie Mendoza (Luis), Josh (Bree), Andrew, Bret (Nicole), Chad (Kimberly), Christopher (Amanda), and Benjamin (Jennifer); and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Southside Baptist Church, Hospice of the Valley, or Edwin L. Hodges Ministries.
