Mary Carolyn McDonald Abston, 76, passed away on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016. She was born May 11, 1940 in Sheffield, AL.
Visitation will be held at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur AL, on Sunday, Dec. 18, from 1:00-3:00 with the funeral services immediately following. Tony Woodall of Murfreesboro, TN, will be officiating.
She is preceded in death by her parents George Washington McDonald and Alma Wyers McDonald; her brother, George Robert McDonald; and her sisters, Nelda McDonald Coons and Betty Ann McDonald Eckles.
She is survived by her husband, John D. Abston of Orange Beach; daughter, Dannie Abston Deffenbaugh (Mark) of Pensacola; son, Mac Abston (Elaine) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Kristen Deffenbaugh Snell (Jonathan) of Homewood, Jenna Deffenbaugh England (Tyler) of Mobile, Evan Abston, Ethan Abston, Eli Abston of Huntsville; brother, Harold McDonald (Millie) of Sheffield; and her many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn graduated from Sheffield High School in 1958 and married her husband, Dan, on March 17, 1960. They lived in Decatur from 1961-1996. While in Decatur they were members of Beltline Church of Christ.
Carolyn and her husband have lived in Orange Beach, Alabama since 1996 where they made their retirement dreams come true. She loved the beach. Carolyn loved to give to the children of St. Jude and was a very benevolent person. She was also a member of Gulf Shores Church of Christ.
The family would like to thank Minister Ray Reynolds, the elders of Gulf Shores Church of Christ, Dr. Dany El-Sayah, Sacred Heart Cancer Center and Covenant Care Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gulf Shores Church of Christ building fund or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
