A Memorial service for Marvin Rex Rankin III, 70, will be Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Bro. Michael Bowe officiating. No Visitation is scheduled.
Marvin Rex Rankin, III died peacefully at his home on July 3rd, 2023. He was born July 8th, 1952 to Marvin Rex Rankin II and Jean Link Rankin.
Rex graduated from Decatur High School as a leader of his class then went on to graduate from Rhodes University in Memphis with a degree in business. He went to work for his father at Rankin Insurance. After many years of loyal service, his father fired him. He then started Rankin, Shelton, Hunter and Balch Insurance and was successful, taking risks that no other insurance companies were willing to take. Rex was also responsible for starting a water treatment company that supplied the Turks and Caicos Islands with clean running water. That business is still successful today, Water Colors Water Treatment. Rex has been a valued friend to several business owners in the area for investing in their dreams.
Rex was a member of several social organizations in Decatur. Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and Kawanis, to name a few. He coached softball for years for the Prime Time League, but his favorite organization was AA, where he inspired and supported many people. He spent his life helping people.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Jim Rankin.
In lieu of flowers, Rex would rather you donate to the Alabama Children’s Home, West Minister Presbyterian Church, Alcoholics Anonymous, the Homeless Shelter or to the Animal Shelter.
