Marty Dunkin was a resident of Lawrenceburg, TN. He was born on August 18, 1958, and passed away on November 19, 2024. He was the son of the late Odis Dunkin and Rebecca Dunkin Grey of Lawrenceburg TN.
Marty attended Lawrence County Schools, graduating from LCHS in 1976 and later attended the University of North Alabama. Marty was married to the late Teresa Dunkin of Lawrenceburg for 41 years. Together they had two sons, Luke Dunkin (Marissa) and Blake Dunkin (Emily). He is also survived by seven amazing grandchildren Hudson, Ryder, Carlie, Abby, Harper, Charlie, and Weston. Also, surviving is one brother, Herman Dunkin of Lawrenceburg, and one sister, Kathy Blackwood of Lawrenceburg; along with several nieces, nephews, and fur babies, Pitch and Pearl.
After working for several years in his family’s business, Dunkin’s Market, Marty served Lawrence County in multiple terms as County Executive, and was the youngest at the time elected to that position. He then went on to work for Waste Connections as a division Vice President for many years until retirement.
Marty loved life and lived it to the fullest, he loved his family with all he had, and he loved spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He loved sharing that passion with friends, family and strangers alike.
He was unapologetically himself, was never afraid to tell you how he felt on almost any subject, and you could count on him always having a one liner ready to go for a laugh.
Large in stature, with a large smile, and larger than life in so many ways led him to being simply known as, “Big” to his grandchildren. For Marty being Big was his favorite title of them all.
If you were ever lucky enough to meet him, you know he was indeed….BIG.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, November 21, 2024, and 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday, November 22, 2024, with David Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN. Family requests memorials be made to Maury Regional Medical Foundation Women’s Center.
