Martha Womack Garrett, 83, died April 23, 2016. Visitation will be today beginning at 11 a.m. immediately followed by the funeral beginning at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens.
Ms. Garrett was the only child born to Lena Rawlinson Womack and Charles Edward Womack on Oct. 14, 1932, in Montgomery, Alabama. She married Robert Eugene Garrett on Mar. 15, 1956. They moved to Decatur in 1957 where Ms. Garrett later taught school. The majority of her 35 year teaching career was with the Decatur City School System as an 8th grade American History and Civics teacher at Oak Park Middle School. Bob and Martha later moved to Rogersville where they were members of the Oliver Church of Christ. After Bob’s death, Martha became an active member of the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce.
