Martha M. Smith, 88, of Madison, AL passed away in her sleep at Hospice Family Care early Thursday morning. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2013. She is survived by their three children, George Jr., Rhonda, and Russell; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Katie, and Phillip; and one great-grandchild, Colton. Martha’s parents were Jesse Ellis Murphree and Angie Mae Hicks Murphree of Birmingham.

Martha attended Auburn University, where she met her husband, George, and in 1954 they married and moved to Seattle, WA. She had a job as a draftsman until they began their family in 1955. Martha’s hobbies included sewing, reading, and everything associated with houses. Once the children were grown, she obtained her real estate license and worked for over 15 years as a realtor in the Huntsville area. She was known for her honesty, integrity, and kindness to all. In retirement, Martha and George had both focused on their miniature schnauzer diva, Elfie, and Martha watched hours of HGTV always talking about what she wanted to do next.

A private graveside service will be held.
