Martha Jean Strickland, 85, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on Monday, March 20th, 2023.
Martha Jean was born March 2nd, 1938, to Lois and Reuben Bailey in Birmingham, AL. She graduated from Shades Valley High School and then attended classes at the University of Alabama in Birmingham where she met the love of her life, Dr Lyldon E. Strickland. They recently celebrated sixty-four wonderful years of marriage.
After they moved to Huntsville in 1960, Martha Jean became very involved in the community. She was a member of Cosmopolitan Club, Rotary Ann, and Les Joyeuses. Martha Jean was a member and leader of the Alabama Dental Alliance. She was a devoted and active member of her church, Twickenham Church of Christ. Martha Jean enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and served on many community boards. Martha Jean loved being with her friends and spending time with her social groups: walking group, tennis teams, travel group, sewing and needlepoint clubs, and bridge groups to name a few.
She leaves behind her husband, Lyldon Eugene Strickland; her children, Anne Bailey Strickland of Orlando, FL, Gregory Eugene Strickland (Margaret), and Stacey Strickland Gardner (Steve). Martha Jean, “Nana” loved and adored her four grandchildren; Bailey and Maggie Gardner, and David and Park Strickland. A special thanks to Yvonne, Lorenza, Leverne, and Sara for the love, support and help they have provided our family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Twickenham Church of Christ on Saturday, March 25th, 2023. Friends and family are invited to greet the family between 12:00pm-2:00pm with a service being held at 2:00pm at the church.
