Ms. Martha Gail Clark Watson Sheppard, age 86, passed away in the late evening hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Diversicare of Arab while under the care of Shepherd’s Cove Hospice. Born June 4, 1940, in Marshall County, Alabama, Gail was the daughter of Shirley Clark and Laura Mae Couch Clark. She grew up in the Morgan City/Union Hill community and was a member of West Point Baptist Church.

Gail was an avid reader and writer. She authored Field of Memories, a book of reflections and memories from her childhood, and was often a contributor to the former nostalgia magazine Yesterday’s Memories. She was a supporter of the Arab Historical Society and Friends of the Arab Library, and she also volunteered her services to the Share House in Morgan City.

Family Gail leaves behind to cherish memories include her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa V. and Michael Whisenant; sister, Lottie Fann Clark Jackson; nieces, Darlene Smith (Michael), Lorrie Powell, and Connie Goode (Bobby); along with other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Laura Mae Clark, and her brother, Larry Joe Clark.

Services for Gail will be Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City. The visitation will be 12:00pm with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Pastor Phil Clanton will officiate. The family has chosen to honor Gail’s wishes to be cremated with her remains placed in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel are assisting the family with arrangements.
