Martha Ellen (Pruitt) Pleasants went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2025.
Martha was born on May 19, 1948, to William Eugene Pruitt and Lora Mae (McDonald) Pruitt in Moulton, Alabama, but called Florence, Alabama her home. She also lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for a period of time, before moving to Collierville, Tennessee when she was in Jr. High.
It was at Collierville High School that she met her future husband Oliver Pleasants, who she began dating after he graduated from Collierville High in 1964. Martha graduated from Collierville High in 1966, and on June 18, 1966, Martha and Oliver wed at Somerville Church of Christ.
All she ever dreamt of being was a devoted wife and a mother. God answered her prayers, and Martha went on to bear three children, Lora Ellen (68), Jennifer Ann (71), and Brian Douglas (77).
Martha is survived by her three children; her sister Margaret Pruitt Ridings; step-sisters Ruth Lynn Gunter Hayes and Martha Beth Gunter Coleman; sister-in-laws Karen Benefiel, Janice (Godwin) Pleasants, Linda (Phillips) Pleasants, Bernice (Pleasants) Roberts; and five grandchildren Skylar, BreeAna, McKenzie, Elijah and Seth.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 40+years Oliver Douglas Pleasants; her parents; her stepmother Fanita (Reynolds) Gunter Pruitt Williams; and two brothers Michael Eugene Pruitt and William Ray Pruitt.
There will be a memorial service held at Spry Funeral Home in Russellville, Alabama on Friday, January 24, from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12:45. She will be buried in the cemetery at Mt. Zion Church of Christ in Florence, Alabama, next to her parents.
The children of Martha Pleasants would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Burns Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center in Russellville, Alabama, and Hospice of North Alabama for the personal and compassionate care provided to their mother.
