Martha Ellen Daniel Lamey passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at the age of 76.
Martha was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Herbert S. Daniel and Pauline Cooley Daniel. Although she was born in Memphis, she spent most of her life in Alabama, where she made her home and built a life centered around her family and faith.
Martha worked as an accountant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Millington, Tennessee. After retiring, she was happiest spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she lovingly called them her “Magnificent Seven.”
Being a mother and grandmother was Martha’s greatest joy. She loved buying gifts for her family and spoiling them whenever she could. Birthdays and holidays were especially important to her, and she always found a way to make each one feel special. She loved making sure everyone felt remembered and loved.
Martha was one of the most selfless and generous people you could know. She gave freely, cared deeply, and found great joy in doing things for the people she loved. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she never missed an opportunity to show them how much they meant to her.
Martha loved Jesus deeply and cherished her church family at Legacy Church in Gadsden, Alabama. Her faith was an important part of her life and was reflected in the kindness and generosity she showed to others.
She is survived by her son, Jack Harley Lamey Sr., his wife, Heather Kirby Lamey, and their son, Jack Harley, Jr.; her daughter, Theresa Lamey McCary, her husband, Robert McCary, and their daughters, Lily Joy and Charlotte Kate; her brother, Bill (Kathy) Daniel; her sister, Paula Self; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert S. Daniel and Pauline Cooley Daniel of Memphis, Tennessee.
To her granddaughters, Lily and Charlotte, she was Mammaw.
To her grandson, Jack, she was Pawpaw.
And to her children, she was Mom.
To all of them, she was home.
