Marion Fred Wisdom, 83, of Harrison, Arkansas, formerly of Loretto, passed away at home on June 6, 2025. He graduated from Loretto High School in 1959. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the Air Force and 1973 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He was a career law enforcement officer, serving as a Detective with the Lawrenceburg Police Department and Criminal Investigator with the District Attorney’s Office in Lawrence, Giles, Maury, and Wayne counties. He served as Chief of Police for the city of Loretto from 1983-1988, followed by the city of Franklin, Tennessee, from 1988-1995. He retired from law enforcement in 1996.
He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the FBI National Academy Associates.
He is fondly remembered for his kindness, humility, generous spirit, and dedication to serving the community. He committed more than a decade of his life to the mentorship of youth as a Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach in Loretto and St. Joseph, as well as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 496, in Loretto.
Among his favorite hobbies were woodworking, reading, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Neva Cain Wisdom; one son, Jeffrey Frederick Wisdom, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Ann Wisdom, along with four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Franklin and Emma Frances Wisdom; infant daughter, Dawn Lynette Wisdom; one brother, James Wisdom; and two sisters, Ruth Phillips and Wilma Luebberke.
Visitation with the family will be held at Loretto Memorial Chapel from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, June 14, 2025. A graveside service and burial with military honors will be held at Restview Cemetery immediately following the visitation with Jeff Wisdom officiating.
